Cultural Competence and Inclusion

What It Is
This program provides straightforward tools to build the cultural competency of participants, focusing on important “cultural markers” and “cultural profiles” that help identify patterns of differences between cultures. These markers not only help to better understand other cultures, but also show us a new perspective on our own. In addition, they also give us more specific strategies, behaviors and tips for increasing our effectiveness with other cultural groups.

Objectives
Participants will:

  • receive a personal cultural profile develop intercultural competence by better understanding other cultures
  • learn new tools to increase effectiveness with other cultural groups

Why You Need It
In survey after survey, employers identify a critical competency they look for in their employees: the ability to work with people that are different from them. As the workplace grows increasingly diverse, this need becomes of paramount importance. Cultural competence works to head off conflicts, inculcate a sense of inclusion and respect, and is fundamental in applying to everyone, not just those habitually tagged as “different” than the organizational norm.
