What It Is
Through interactive exercises and engaging examples, deepSEE’s experienced facilitators offer in-depth description and analysis of the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS). This rigorously tested framework, measured through the online Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) gives individuals and organizations a clear picture of their comfort level and effectiveness at communicating across differences, both internally and externally.
Objectives
Participants will:
- explore their own level of cultural competence
- create action strategies for their personal development
- understand the developmental stages of cultural competency and intervention strategies to move to the next stage gain a greater awareness of diversity issues that impact the workplace
- practice using the inventory and model in their organization
Why You Need It
We are all at various stages along a continuum of cultural competence. To truly develop greater competence and awareness, individuals and organizations need different interventions. The problem is, these strategies are not always self-evident, and to really create change, organizations need to begin where their employees are. Successfully addressing this challenge in a systematic, understandable, measureable way creates a workplace cultural differences are no longer obstacles, but instead become a source of power and innovation for the organization who can change its mindset.
