Turning on the Lights

Starting and Sustaining a Diversity Initiative

What It Is
This extended partnership, utilizing deepSEE’s powerful LEARN/ACT model, helps participants build a real, sustainable, organizationally-sound diversity strategy from the ground up. Focusing first on the LEARN stage of building subject-matter knowledge with the Intercultural Development Inventory and Developmental Model of Cultural Sensitivity and an analysis of organizational needs and case-studies, only then do participants move on to the ACT stage, where they produce solid detail-oriented, long-term strategies.

Objectives
Participants will:

  • understand their own cultural starting points
  • analyze the current organizational diversity starting-point
  • agree on a shared definition of diversity and cultural competence
  • align proposed diversity strategy with organizational strategy
  • create a cultural competency model useable as a measurable performance point
  • build a solid, workable multi-year diversity plan

Why You Need It
Sad but true: many diversity initiatives are flashes in the organizational pan. Yet it’s common knowledge these days that, for an organization to be truly successful, issues of diversity must be addressed authentically and consistently. A well-planned diversity initiative, with time spent up front to truly connect it to the reality of the organization makes the difference between lip service to the issues of diversity as opposed to attention to the opportunities workplace diversity offers.
