Kim brings over 30 years of experience and expertise in the areas of leadership education, effective group facilitation, organizational development and urban programming. For the past 20 years Kim has worked in University of Minnesota Extension, including the last seven years as an educator specializing in leadership and civic engagement, and the previous 13 years directing Extension operations in the metropolitan Minneapolis-St. Paul area. His current work has primarily focused on local elected and appointed leaders (county government and soil and water conservation districts). Kim is also an elected official, serving as chair of the Hennepin Conservation District since 2005. He has been instrumental in the design and delivery of numerous community and regional leadership programs throughout Minnesota. Prior to his work with the University of Minnesota Extension, he served 12 years with the Minneapolis YMCA as a Program Director and Branch Executive. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, a M.A. in Education from the University of Iowa, and has additional graduate level coursework in organization development from the University of Minnesota. In 2005 he was honored with the University of Minnesota Distinguished Extension Field Faculty Award, and in 1984 he received the Metropolitan Minneapolis YMCA Distinguished Program Service Award – the highest staff awards in both organizations.
