A passion for connecting with people describes Mary’s personal and professional profile. Her life experience has led her from the rural plains of farmland in the Midwest to the coasts of New England, to metropolitan communities as well as rural Appalachia. She has worked in human service settings with populations of all ages as well with the Extension System in Pennsylvania and Minnesota where she is credited with creating cutting edge programming including parenting, youth development and leadership and facilitation efforts to reach new and underserved audiences for which she has won national awards. In addition to a Master’s degree from Penn State University in Individual and Family Development, Mary is completing her Ph. D. at the University of Minnesota focusing on how formal and nonformal leaders in rural communities help immigrants to integrate into the community. Over her tenure in the Extension system she has also been certified in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, True Colors personality assessment, IDI (Intercultural Developmental Inventory) related to the Developmental Model for Intercultural Sensitivity, and the ICS (Intercultural Conflict Styles).
